Short answer: Lower Art Mode brightness until the picture stops glowing, use a warm colour tone, pick art with a matte or mat-style border, and set Sleep, Motion and Night Mode so the art stays on when people are in the room. Menu names differ a little between model years, so look for the closest match on your TV.
Where to find the Art Mode settings
Press the power button once to switch to Art Mode. Open the Art Mode home screen and scroll to the settings. On some 2022–2023 models the sleep settings are grouped under Sleep Options after a software update. Samsung's support pages note that options vary by model and region.
1. Brightness: the most important setting
A real painting doesn't give off light; it reflects the light in the room. In Art Mode, turn brightness down until the artwork looks lit by the room, not by the screen. The Frame's brightness sensor (on by default) adjusts the picture to the room's light. Samsung notes the sensor may not work normally if the room is very dark or very bright, so set brightness by eye if the art still looks too bright.
2. Colour tone
Pick a warmer colour tone for oil paintings, landscapes and anything in gold or brown frames. A cooler tone suits black-and-white photography and modern prints.
3. Choose art that suits the frame
- Use a mat-style border in the Art Mode display options for a gallery look. It adds space between the art and the frame, like a real mat.
- Match the art to the frame: classic paintings in gold or carved frames, modern photography in black or silver, landscapes in wood tones.
- Samsung's Art Store has a large library. You can also upload your own photos.
4. Sleep After
This turns Art Mode off after a period with no activity. Samsung lists options from 5 minutes to 4 hours, or Off (Art Mode always on). If the art keeps switching off while you're home, choose a longer time.
5. Motion Detector
The motion sensor turns the screen on when someone walks in and off after the room is empty. It is off by default and is not available on every model; the 32" model has no motion detection. If the art switches off while people are still in the room, raise the sensitivity or turn the sensor off.
6. Night Mode
Night Mode puts the TV into standby when the room gets dark and brings Art Mode back when light and motion return. If the art turns off in the evening while lamps are still on, turn Night Mode off. This is the most common reason for "my Frame keeps turning off".
Does a decorative frame change these settings?
No settings change when you fit a frame. A deeper frame sits close to the edge of the screen, so if Art Mode starts switching off or dimming unexpectedly after fitting, check Sleep After, Motion Detector and Night Mode first.
Quick checklist
- Brightness: low enough that the art doesn't glow
- Colour tone: warm for paintings, cool for modern photos
- Mat-style border: on, for a gallery look
- Sleep After: long enough for your day
- Motion Detector: adjusted, or off
- Night Mode: off if the art turns off too early
Frequently asked questions
Why does my Frame TV keep turning off in Art Mode?
Usually because of Sleep After, the motion sensor or Night Mode. Lengthen Sleep After, lower or turn off the motion sensor, and turn off Night Mode.
Why does the art look like a screen, not a painting?
Brightness is usually too high. Turn it down, use a warmer tone and add a mat-style border. A deeper decorative frame also helps the TV read as a framed picture.
Does Art Mode work the same on The Frame Pro?
Art Mode is on The Frame Pro too. Menu names can differ by model year, so look for the closest match on your TV.
