Short answer: A FrameForTV frame adds up to 8 cm (about 3.15") on each side of Samsung The Frame. Plan your wall around the outside size of the frame, not the screen. Samsung's general advice is to mount a TV so the screen sits about 42" from the floor to its centre, or 4–6" above furniture below it. Samsung does not recommend mounting a TV above a fireplace that you use.
How much wall space do you need?
These are the approximate outside sizes of The Frame with one of our frames (from our size chart):
| TV size | Outside size with frame, approx. |
|---|---|
| 32" | 34.2" × 22.0" |
| 43" | 43.8" × 27.4" |
| 50" | 49.9" × 30.8" |
| 55" | 54.2" × 33.3" |
| 65" | 63.0" × 38.2" |
| 75" | 71.7" × 43.1" |
| 85" | 80.4" × 48.0" |
Leave some breathing room around the frame, the way you would around a painting. A few inches between the frame and a shelf, window or ceiling keeps it from looking squeezed.
How high should you hang it?
Samsung's general wall-mounting advice uses about 42" from the floor to the centre of the screen as a starting point, or 4–6" above furniture such as a console or sideboard. In Art Mode, The Frame is meant to look like a painting, so many people hang it at the same height as other art in the room.
Tip: before you drill for the wall mount, cut a piece of paper or cardboard to the outside size from the table above and tape it to the wall. Live with it for a day.
Above a fireplace
Samsung's own support pages do not recommend mounting a TV above a fireplace, mainly because of heat: the temperature at the TV should not go above about 104°F (40°C). If your fireplace is decorative or you rarely use it, it can still be a beautiful spot. Check the temperature at TV height while the fire is on, and remember that a frame adds height and width above the mantel.
- Measure from the top of the mantel to the ceiling and compare it with the outside height in the table.
- Above a fireplace the TV usually sits higher than eye level. A smaller size often looks better proportioned than the largest one that fits.
Above a console, sideboard or bench
- Choose a TV and frame that are narrower than the furniture below. As a rule of thumb, about two-thirds of the furniture width looks balanced.
- Hang the frame 4–6" above the top of the furniture, as Samsung suggests for TVs in general.
- Darker wood furniture pairs well with wood-look frames; light oak or white furniture with gold or silver.
Where does the soundbar go?
A soundbar mounted directly below the TV can block the bottom of the frame and makes The Frame look more like a TV. If you can, place the soundbar on the furniture below, not on the wall. The Frame's cable can be routed so the wall stays clean; check Samsung's instructions for your model.
Gallery wall
The Frame works well in a gallery wall when the TV frame is the anchor piece. Keep the gaps between frames even, and choose a frame colour that echoes one or two other frames on the wall.
Frequently asked questions
Does the frame stick out from the wall?
The frame sits around the TV and attaches over your existing wall mount with an elastic backing. It adds depth around the edge so the screen looks set into a picture frame.
Do I need a different wall mount?
No. The frame works with the wall mount you already use for The Frame.
Which size should I choose for my wall?
Measure the space, then compare it with the outside sizes above. If you are between two sizes, tape both outlines on the wall to compare.
